How we chose these comfortable white sneakers

Our picks are based on construction, materials, price and availability in Canada; hands-on Lab results are being added as each pair finishes testing. We looked for white sneakers built for long days on your feet: cushioned soles, wide-fit options and uppers that suit work, walking or wet weather, all sold in CAD by Canadian retailers.

Four picks are running and walking shoes added for this guide; the On Cloud 6, New Balance 530 and Vessi Weekend come from our main white sneaker set. No brand or retailer paid to be here; see our disclosure.

Prices are what we saw on 24 October 2026; several pairs were on sale or short on white sizes, and each card says so. From November 2026 the Lab adds weight per size, toe-box width and salt tests.

What makes a white sneaker comfortable for long days?

Comfort over a long day comes down to a few things you can check: enough foam under your foot, a sole shape that rolls you through each step, a toe box wide enough for your foot, a weight you won’t notice by hour ten, and room for your own insole or orthotic. Fit matters more than the logo.

• Cushioning and stack. Stack height is how much sole sits under your foot. Gear Patrol puts the Clifton 10 at 42 mm for a men’s size 10, much thicker than a flat court sole.
• Drop. This is the height difference between heel and toe. HOKA lists 8 mm for the Clifton 10, Brooks 10 mm for the Ghost 18, and On 8 mm for the Cloud 6.
• Rocker. A sole curved up at the toe and heel helps you roll forward instead of bending the shoe at every step. HOKA builds its MetaRocker shape into the Clifton.
• Width. A toe box that feels fine for an hour can feel tight by the end of a shift. Brooks, HOKA and New Balance make wide versions of these picks.
• Weight. HOKA lists about 278 g (9.8 oz) for the men’s Clifton 10, and Brooks 289.2 g for the men’s Ghost 18 and 260.8 g for the women’s. New Balance lists 310 g for the women’s leather 608v5.
• Insole room. A removable insole lets you fit an orthotic. Simons lists the Clifton 10’s footbed as removable.

What should nurses and healthcare workers look for in white sneakers?

Start with the upper. Smooth leather, like the New Balance 608v5’s, wipes clean after a spill, while the mesh and knit on most cushioned runners soak liquids up. Then check slip resistance and your workplace’s footwear rules, which often cover closed toes and heels, upper materials and, for some uniforms, colour.

Uppers. Of our picks, only the 608v5 has a leather upper. The Clifton 10, Ghost 18, Cloud 6, 530 and GO WALK Joy use mesh, knit or textile. The Vessi Weekend’s knit is waterproof, according to Vessi, but it is still a knit, so check your policy if it asks for non-mesh shoes.

Slip resistance. None of the white pairs here is sold as slip-resistant. New Balance makes a 608v5 Slip Resistant, tested to the ASTM F2913 slip-resistance standard, but New Balance Canada sold it only in black in October 2026. It can matter: in a 2021 trial of 4,553 NHS staff in England, people offered slip-resistant shoes reported about 37% fewer slips over 14 weeks. If your floors are often wet, weigh that against colour.

Dress codes. Footwear rules vary by employer, unit and school. Some ask for all-white shoes with a nursing uniform or on clinical placements; others only require closed, low-heeled shoes. Read yours before you buy, and look closely at product photos: the white Ghost 18 colourways have black or pastel accents.

Long shifts. For 12-hour days, fit and width come first. The 608v5 comes in men’s 4E and Sport Chek sells a women’s wide fit in white.

How do sizing and wide fits work in Canada?

The Canadian stores on this list use US sizes, and width is a separate letter. For women, B is standard and D is wide; for men, D is standard, 2E is wide and 4E is extra-wide. Brooks also makes narrow widths and a women’s extra-wide (2E). Measure first, then read each brand’s fit notes.

• HOKA Clifton 10. Regular and wide for men and women, plus men’s extra-wide. In White / White, wide was offered but extra-wide was not.
• Brooks Ghost 18. Four widths, but the white colourways were down to medium for women and medium or wide for men in October 2026.
• New Balance 608v5. Men’s white in D, 2E and 4E, sizes 6.5 to 18. New Balance says it fits as expected.
• Skechers GO WALK Joy. Women’s medium and wide; Amazon.ca had more white stock than Skechers Canada.
• On Cloud 6. On lists it as true to size; Sport Chek and Sporting Life sell wide versions.
• New Balance 530 and Vessi Weekend. New Balance says most people go down half a size in the 530. Vessi says its men’s Weekend runs snug.

Measure your foot late in the day and compare it with the brand’s chart. Then buy where returns are easy: Brooks Canada has a 90-day trial with free returns, New Balance Canada takes returns within 45 days, HOKA Canada offers 30 days, and On Canada gives 90 days on purchases made from 21 October to 31 December 2026. If you have ongoing heel or arch pain, including plantar fasciitis, talk to a podiatrist or chiropodist, and take your orthotics when you try shoes on.

Can you wear comfortable white sneakers in a Canadian winter?

Mostly not. Five of these seven picks have mesh, knit or textile uppers that let slush in and show salt lines. The New Balance 608v5’s leather handles cold, dry days if you wipe salt off the same day. The Vessi Weekend is the only waterproof pick, though Vessi makes no insulation claim for it.

Waterproof versions of the running shoes exist, just not in white. Sport Chek listed a Brooks Ghost 18 GORE-TEX at CA$210 and a HOKA Clifton 11 GORE-TEX at CA$205, both shown in dark colours, and On’s Cloud 6 Waterproof (CA$210) wasn’t offered in white in October 2026. How do you keep comfort sneakers white?

Clean them little and often. Wipe leather with a damp cloth and mild soap. Brush mesh and knit gently with mild soap and cold water, then air-dry away from heaters. Skechers says the GO WALK Joy is machine washable. Rinse road salt off the same day, before it dries into white lines.

• Leather (608v5). Wipe spills right away, before they dry into the grain, and condition the leather now and then so it doesn’t dry out.
• Mesh and knit (Clifton, Ghost, Cloud 6, 530). Use a soft brush and little water, and dry insoles and laces separately.
• Washable pairs. Skechers labels the GO WALK Joy machine washable. Vessi recommends hand washing the Weekend; if you use a machine, use cold water, a wash bag and no bleach.
• Salt. Let the shoes dry, brush off loose salt, then wipe the marks with a cloth dampened in two parts water to one part white vinegar, and finish with plain water. Our guide to removing salt stains has the details.
