What is WhiteSneakers.ca?

WhiteSneakers.ca helps Canadians choose, buy and keep white sneakers. Our motto is simple: tested in slush, priced in CAD, sold where Canadians actually shop. Every guide answers the questions a US magazine can’t: what a shoe costs here, which Canadian retailers sell it, how it copes with a Canadian winter, and how to get the salt out.

We cover the white sneakers Canadians search for most, from the adidas Stan Smith and Nike Air Force 1 to Veja, Common Projects and waterproof pairs from Canadian brands. We write buying guides, head-to-head comparisons, care guides and practical Canadian buying advice.

Why a Canadian site?

Because most sneaker advice is written for the US. It quotes prices in US dollars, recommends retailers that don’t ship here, and rarely mentions road salt. Canadians pay in CAD, shop at different stores, face duties and taxes on cross-border orders, and spend several months a year walking through slush.

So we focus on:

  • Prices in CAD at Canadian retailers, with the month we checked them.
  • Where to buy in Canada, including free-shipping thresholds and return windows.
  • Winter reality: which uppers survive salt and slush, and which to leave at home.
  • Sizing in Canada, where unisex, US, EU and Italian size systems all show up on the same shelf.

How do we choose what to recommend?

Until our Lab results are in, our picks are based on construction, materials, price and availability in Canada. We say so on every guide. We never claim to have tested a shoe we haven’t, and we don’t invent measurements, wear impressions or photos.

For every shoe, we keep one spec sheet: upper, lining, sole, sizing, country of manufacture where we can verify it, CAD price and where to buy it. Each fact links to the source we read, and each guide lists its sources at the bottom. When we update a page with new prices, picks or test results, we change the “updated” date and add a line to the change log. We don’t change dates without changing content.

We choose shoes for what they are and who they suit, not for who sells them or what a brand offers us. If we get something wrong, email hello@whitesneakers.ca. We’ll correct it and note the correction in the change log.

What is the Lab?

The Lab is where we test white sneakers the way Canadians actually wear them. Testing starts in November 2026, and results will be added to each shoe and guide as each pair finishes. We publish numbers in tables, with the method, so you can see exactly what we measured.

The tests we’re setting up:

Test What we do What it tells you
Salt and slush test Expose the upper to a road-salt solution, dry it, photograph it, clean it, and measure the stain left behind Which uppers recover from salt, and which don’t
Whiteness Index Colorimeter readings when new, after 30 days of wear, and after cleaning How white each pair stays, as a number
Crease and scuff log Photos and notes at 50, 100 and 200 km of walking How each upper ages
Fit data Weight per size in grams, toe-box width, and fit against a Brannock device How each shoe fits before you order online
Cleaner comparison Branded cleaners against dish soap and baking soda on matching stains Whether you need to buy a kit

We buy the pairs we test. If a brand ever sends us a free pair, we’ll say so on that shoe’s page.

Are we independent?

Yes. No brand or retailer pays to appear in our guides, to be ranked higher, or to be left out. We don’t publish sponsored reviews or paid placements. Right now, the site has no affiliate links. If we add them in future, we’ll disclose them clearly on every page that has them, and they won’t decide which shoes we recommend.

Read our full disclosure for how we’ll handle commissions and free samples, and our privacy policy for what we collect when you visit.

Who writes WhiteSneakers.ca?

Two editors write and edit WhiteSneakers.ca:

  • Ethan Alexander Whitmore, Lab Editor. Ethan leads testing in the Lab: the salt and slush test, Whiteness Index readings, the crease and scuff log and fit measurements. He writes our care guides and comparisons.
  • Nathaniel Laurent Tremblay, Editor. Nathaniel edits the buying guides and tracks prices, sizing and availability at Canadian retailers.

Each guide shows who wrote it, when it was first published and when it was last updated, along with a change log of what changed.
